5 Steps for Contouring Your Face with Makeup

Contouring is a great make up technique that can highlight the features of your face. The concept is quite simple. You use a contouring product that is two shades darker than your skin tone. Then, you are able to highlight and enhance the facial structure, using basic make up.

What does contouring make up do?

Contouring make up works by creating highlights and shadows. This adds dimension to your face and plays up features like your cheekbones and your nose. This is the secret behind the glamorous look that most celebrities sport.

Here is are 5 tips to contour your face to perfection:

Products you will need:

    • BB Day Cream
    • Blush
    • Bronzer
    • Highlighter Brush
    • Angled Brush
    • Blush Brush

Before your use any contouring product on your skin, make sure that it is well moisturized. This not only protects your skin but also makes sure that the contouring products spread evenly on your skin.

Step 1: Choose the right shade for your skin tone

Choosing the correct shades is the key to proper contouring. The bronzer should be darker than your natural tone. You need to use it to create more depth and to sculpt your face. It is better to choose one that is matte as opposed to shimmer. It should be two shades darker than your foundation color.

Step 2: Look for your contours

The bronzer must be applied along the hollow of your cheek. Pursing your lips can do this. The line that is formed on the face should be followed. This is taken up to the hairline to create a crescent shaped marking. The edge of the bridge of your nose is also highlighted with two parallel lines. Use highlighter in the area between these lines.

Step 3: Use the blush

With the help of a round blush, sweep the blush on over the apple of your cheek. Extend it to the temples. This is the area just above the one that you have applied the bronzer on. It will make the blend seamless.

Step 4: Blend in the colors

After you have applied the blush, use your blush brush for a smooth blend. You need to blend in the bronzer and the blush. This can be done with a circular movement of the brush as if you are buffing up your skin. Pay attention to blending. If not you will have lines on your face that demarcate the blush and the bronzer. Also blend in the dark shades and the highlighter that you have used on your nose. This makes the nose look sharper and thinner. This blend is very important, as it will change the facial structure entirely.

Step 5: Make sure you highlight your cheekbones

The last step is meant to enhance your cheekbones. You will use the highlighter for this. Apply it on the cheekbones directly. The area just above the one that you used the blush on is ideal. The highest part of your outer cheek is the exact location of your cheekbone. It is just below your eye. Using the highlighter will give you a sharp finish.
